My scholarship examines how language, race, ideology, emotions, and political economy shape educational inequalities—and how multilingual communities, teachers, and youth negotiate, resist, and reimagine them.

01 — Language, Ideology & Educational Inequality

I examine how languages acquire unequal social, political, and economic value, and how these hierarchies become embedded in educational policies and practices. Through research on English-medium and multilingual education, particularly in the Global South, I explore how language ideologies and political-economic forces shape schooling, social reproduction, and unequal access to educational opportunities.

02 — Race, Affect & Social-Emotional Justice

I study how linguistic inequality is lived and felt, particularly where language intersects with race, ethnicity, migration, identity, and belonging. Bringing raciolinguistic perspectives into conversation with affect and emotions, my work examines experiences of aspiration, anxiety, exclusion, and resistance. I am extending this research toward wellbeing and social-emotional justice among students, teachers, and minoritized communities.

03 — Multilingual Communities, Agency & Justice

I explore how teachers, students, youth, families, and communities negotiate and contest unequal educational conditions. My research examines multilingual practices, counternarratives, anti-racist education, and decolonial possibilities as forms of agency. Increasingly, I use community-based and participatory approaches to understand how communities’ knowledge, experiences, and aspirations can contribute to educational change.
